Voice and DSP Webinar
Demystifying Beamformers

July 13, 2022
9:00 AM Pacific (12:00 PM Eastern)

Overview

The Audio Product Education Institute (APEI), an initiative of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), presents a new webinar on its Voice and DSP education pillar, addressing beamformers, practical application experiences of beamforming techniques, and the latest optimizations for voice recognition platforms. A unique knowledge-sharing session from three top industry experts with vast experience in development of the latest cutting-edge voice-based products.

Learn about beamformer functionality including how the number of microphones and geometry impacts performance, the importance of microphone matching and SNR, and how to create steerable arrays.  Discover the technical challenges with beamforming and how new MEMs microphones can help give consistent directionality across the audible range and good SNR. Explore how beamforming improves voice activation and recognition.

Following an introduction on beamformers by Paul Beckmann, the co-founder and CTO of DSP Concepts, Sahil Gupta, co-founder and Product Lead at Soundskrit, will discuss improving beamforming using MEMS directional microphones. In the third presentation, Arash Radmoghadam, Director of Engineering and Applied Machine Learning at Fluent.ai, will discuss improving voice recognition with beamforming. The webinar will be presented by Dave Lindberg (DB Enterprises, Hong Kong), APEIs Supply Chain and Sourcing pillar co-chair. Attendees will be able to submit questions to the presenters, which will be addressed in the last 30 minutes of this session.
Arash Radmoghadam

Director of Engineering, Fluent.ai
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Arash Radmoghadam is Director of Engineering and Applied Machine Learning at Fluent.ai, where he leads Fluent’s machine learning engineering and delivery team. Arash began his career with Fluent in 2017 as part of the research team assisting the company to develop its unique end-to-end spoken language understanding technology. He has a Master of Computer Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal.

Sahil Gupta

Product Lead, Soundskrit
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Sahil received his Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2016 from Cornell University where his research focused on the development of low power MEMS sensors. He then moved to Montreal to bring together his passion for audio and technology to help start what eventually became Soundskrit. He now serves as the Product Lead at Soundskrit, helping with the development and marketing of a novel MEMS directional microphone designed to improve audio capture in consumer devices.
